First Ever Keating Family Reunion - June 2011

A very special meaningful and heartwarming first ever Keating Reunion was held in Bloomfield, MO in mid-June. Twenty-eight people of several generations attended wearing Keating Crest imprinted shirts. Many of these relatives, all of whom share Stoddard County ancestors, met for the very first time. They came from Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, Georgia, Florida, Colorado, and Tennessee.

The reunion idea blossomed from Richard Keating of Michigan who visited his childhood home town to 'look up' some relatives in the summer of 2010. He suggested the idea to some of those he met on that visit and the idea took off. A year later the Keatings were reunited in a memorable two-day event!

The first day all enjoyed a picnic in the Bloomfield City Park, a town tour, three local cemetery visits, and an evening of socializing and s'mores around a bonfire . Everyone met on the second day for a more formal all day gathering with lots of activities - awards, family history presentation, "memorial wall" honoring those who have passed on, a catered meal, and a fund-raiser auction to help with future reunions. An auction highlight was a keepsake quilt hand crafted by June Keating Hall of Bloomfield embroidered with the name and date of the event. Other items were handmade baskets brought by attendees with a variety of items representing their states. The day ended with music, fun games, prizes, and karaoke. The Dexter Statesman took photos and interviewed members for an article for the paper's Sunday edition. A great moment in Keating Family History! by June Hall

Keating News

Everyone, this is from Richard Keating in Michigan: "I am having my annual Labor Day Camping Week-end at my house, Sept. 2nd thru 5th any family member that wants to come is more than welcome. I have plenty of camping room for either tents, pop-ups, travel trailers, or 5th wheels. No hook up's for electric or sewer but water is available, so you must be self contained. We will have fun, games, cook-out's, and bon-fires."
